"Friendships" ending over the election?

On 11/8/16, Reporters on a few news networks I watched said this election ended 7% of friendships. I believed truly that people can have difference in beliefs, support different people and still be friends. I actually encourage it, for its people that think differently than you that may need to hear you the most. I still believe this. However, "friends" don't decide that your real life concerns, your fear and your experiences are invalid in any way. In my opinion, If you've "ended a friendship" defending your right to be concerned and the right of others to be as well, you never actually had a true friendship. Friends respect your fears and concerns, even when they are unable to relate. Friends are friends, even when they disagree. They offer compassion and seek to understand. They don't look to tear down, be dismissive or seek to be combative offering unsolicited opinions while simultaneously being covered by privilege they are in denial about.  So if you have had the unfortunate experience I have had and seen the hideous true colors of people during and post this election, stood up for yourself and subsequently "lost a friend,” please accept my congratulations for dropping off dead weight. It's one thing to not stand with you regarding matters of social justice, but someone choosing to stand or speak AGAINST you and your desire to be protected equally as they are, is not someone worthy of your friendship.

Fundamental differences don't always ruin relationships. Close minds, stubborn hearts and lashing tongues however, will never fail to.

LESSON: Not saying anything or refusing to speak your mind simply to avoid an argument may mean you are apart of the problem. So speak up, but be mindful of how long you choose to argue with the close minded individuals. Get your point across in a clear and concise manner. Most importantly, don't be surprised if someone that claims to love or care about you shows their trashy and hateful side. Rise above knowing that:

"PREJUDICES ARE RARELY OVERCOME BY ARGUMENT; NOT BEING FOUNDED IN REASON.

THEY CANNOT BY DESTROYED BY LOGIC."

Until next time,
